Bruce Power donates sterilization machine for PPE

Bruce Power has donated a machine that sterilizes masks and other personal protective equipment (PPE) to Grey Bruce Health Services in Owen Sound. The Clean Flow Health Care mini can destroy 99.9 per cent of pathogens and viruses on surfaces, and cleans up to 800 N95 masks per hour.

“As we move through the second wave of the pandemic, the availability of PPE has become more crucial to prevent virus spread and outbreaks,” said Dr. Ian Arra, Medical Officer of Health and CEO of the Grey Bruce Health Unit. “Bruce Power has yet again risen to the challenge and provided the area with a mask sanitizer machine. This will allow our frontline workers to have a continuous supply of PPE and subsequently save lives.”

In April 2020, Bruce Power, Bruce County and Huron County partnered to purchase three machines to ensure a reliable supply chain of PPE locally. The machines purchased by Bruce Power and Bruce County were housed at Abraflex, a Paisley-based manufacturer of PPE for the nuclear industry, which provided the space and staff expertise to operate the machines. After consultation with the Grey Bruce Health Unit, the machine purchased by Bruce Power will now be delivered to Grey Bruce Health Services in Owen Sound.

“PPE continues to play an important role in reducing the spread of COVID-19, helping to ensure the province can safely restart the economy,” said Richard Horrobin, Bruce Power’s Vice President & Managing Director, Supply Chain. “This donation will maintain a steady supply of clean personal protective equipment to protect our frontline health care workers, who have worked tirelessly to keep our communities safe.”

Over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, Bruce Power has provided frontline organizations across the province with 2.5 million pieces of PPE. This represents the largest announced private-sector donation of PPE in Canada.
