A spirit of collaboration and community connection was on full display at the beach cleanup on Saturday, May 16th, as 85 volunteers came together to remove more than 220 pounds of litter from the shoreline during the combined Saugeen Beach and Sauble Beach Clean-up.

Led by a partnership that included the Chippewas of Saugeen First Nation, Saugeen Fisheries Department, Zuzek Inc., Friends of Sauble Beach, and the Lake Huron Coastal Centre, the event brought together residents, visitors, families, and community members with the shared goal of caring for the beach and shoreline environment.
Volunteers spread out along 8 km of shoreline from the Sauble River down to French Bay Road to collect litter that had accumulated over the winter months, helping to prepare the beach for the busy summer season while contributing to the long-term health of the coastal ecosystem.

“Events like this demonstrate what is possible when communities come together around a shared purpose,” said the organizing partners in a joint statement. “The clean-up was about more than removing litter — it was an opportunity to connect with one another, strengthen relationships, and care for a place that means so much to many people.”
In addition to the environmental impact, the event fostered meaningful community connections, creating unique opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to work side-by-side, building strong and special relationships through their shared stewardship.
We are so grateful to everyone that participated in helping to make the coastal cleanup a resounding success, an outcome that could not have been possible without the dedication of all of the volunteers and the strong and exciting partnerships that grew out of the event.
The Beach Clean-up Partners hope that this collaborative effort will continue to inspire stewardship and community care for the Lake Huron shoreline in the future.
