The two-day event of the Marine Heritage Festival, a free family event held in Southampton each summer before the long August weekend, begins on a Friday night at the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre that overlooks Fairy Lake.
While the opening began with a jazz gala concert, followed by a BBQ and cornroast, at Fairy Lake it was all about the Martin’s Kids’ Bike race. Divided into age groups, young cyclists raced around Fairy Lake, cheered on by family and friends, in the hopes of winning a trophy presented by Martin’s Cycle Shop in Southampton.
At the end of the race(s), Captain Wayne Sparrow, the spearhead of the Marine Heritage Festival weekend, presented the hard-earned trophies in each age group.

While cyclists won the trophies, everyone had the chance to win a draw prize donated by Martin’s Cycle Shop, so that everyone was a winner!
