In the spirit of staying connected across our region, GBH Strong has added a new feature to its app and website to promote shopping local at a time when many stores are closed, and residents are urged to stay home.
The website and app now include an online store where consumers can purchase Gift Cards, of any value, from their local favourite stores across Bruce, Grey and Huron Counties and redeem at a later date.
“Bruce Power, along with our partners at NPX and NII, are encouraging people in our communities to support local business owners and their staffs during these uncertain times,” said James Scongack, Executive Vice-President, Corporate Affairs and Operational Services, Bruce Power. “The online store at GBH Strong provides an opportunity to do that easily while staying safe during this health crisis.”
Businesses across Grey, Bruce and Huron counties are eligible to sign up, and it’s free and easy. To have a business added, the business must email gbhstrongstore@npxinnovation.ca with the company name, contact information, business location(s) and a logo image.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for our local businesses to bring in some revenue at a time when many of them have been forced to close their doors, and those still open are seeing a significant decrease in customers,” said Jim Ginn, Mayor of Central Huron and the Warden of Huron County. “Purchasing gift cards for our businesses sends a signal to them that we are here to support them and look forward to seeing them again soon!”
For those who haven’t viewed the website or app yet, the free app is available on the Apple App Store (look for “GBH Strong”), and Google Play Store. All information can also be accessed directly at www.gbhstrong.com
About Grey Bruce Huron Strong
In mid-April, Bruce Power and its partners at the Nuclear Innovation Institute (NII) and NPX created the Grey•Bruce•Huron Strong app to help people in our communities stay in touch – and properly informed – during this extraordinary time.
The app provides direct benefit to everyone by curating and aggregating trusted information sources – especially local ones – for a population that has been forced into social isolation.
People need to know what local businesses are open, where food banks can be found, how to get social assistance under new or existing government programs, and who to call if they need mental health support, because in times like this, we need to stay together more than ever.
