Phase 1 of the Lamont Sports Park outdoor sports complex at the south end of Port Elgin (Saugeen Shores) is moving ahead by leaps and bounds.
There is no access to the construction site but light standards and much of the infrastructure are now in place, in addition to one ball diamond with others underway as work continues.

The plan for a sports park complex took a giant step forward when the community rallied together in a Canada-wide contest to win the Kraft Heinz Project Play $250,000 top prize in the Fall of 2019.
The construction contract was awarded to Anthony Furlano Construction. Phase One will include four ball diamonds at a cost of $5,319,233, as well as provide infrastructure for future phases. While coming in above the original budget, the contract was awarded to the lowest of five bids which ranged from $5.3 to $9 million.
Fundraising efforts will begin and may include ‘naming right’ opportunities for businesses and organizations for the four diamonds to help offset additional construction costs. The 160-acre parcel of land will also be home to a business park.
In March of this year, Vice-Deputy Mayor, Mike Myatt, said he supported the idea of ‘naming rights’ in the memory of a love one, by alumni ball players, businesses and organizations at $50,000 and that it was an excellent idea that should be first-come, first-served.
Lamont Sports Park Fundraising Strategy Committee Meeting chaired by Councillor Kristan Shrider has recommended several options for fundraising efforts that will move forward building on the community excitement of the Kraft Heinz Project Play project.
