On May 30th, a special live auction will be held by retired auctioneer, Len Metcalfe, in Mildmay with all proceeds going to Crime Stoppers.

Metcalfe has long been a supporter of Crime Stoppers, a past board member, current volunteer, retired auctioneer and, in 2024, he stepped forward with a $500 personal donation.

The Crime Stoppers movement began in 1976 and is based on three essential pillars – the community, the media, and law enforcement.  The local program is operated by a group of volunteers, including a volunteer Board of Directors who oversees the program as well as raising funds and increasing public awareness of Crime Stoppers in the community.

The media aides the program by publicizing case re-enactments or details about a case not yet solved or a person wanted on a warrant, and law enforcement receives the anonymous tip information from Crime Stoppers’ office staff and follows that information through to its conclusion.

Crime Stoppers has grown in numbers with over 1,200 programs worldwide coordinating the people in their regions toward “being part of the solution” – all volunteer driven.

Crime Stoppers encourages the public to call toll-free 1-800-222-TIPS, (8477) or submit secure Web or Mobile Tips with information about any crimes that have been committed or are about to occur, and the whereabouts of wanted persons, stolen property, or illegal narcotics.  The information provided is then forwarded, anonymously, to investigators who then respond back with an outcome.

Crime Stoppers of Grey Bruce was formed in 1987 and has garnered thousands of tips which resulted in many arrests clearing many cases from police files, and  resulted in recovering millions of dollars in drugs and stolen property.

Crime Stopper’s success is reflected in the numbers. Since its inception in 1987, Crime Stoppers of Grey Bruce tips have led to the seizure or recovery of over 55.7 MILLION DOLLARS in drugs, cash, and property!

As a registered charity Crime Stoppers relies on the generosity of community donors to help fund the program and keep it sustainable.  It’s largest fundraiser is the Crime Stoppers annual Golf Classic and, this year, the tournament celebrates its 34th anniversary on Thursday, June 4th, with proceeds going to fund the essential crime prevention work that Crime Stoppers performs.

For individual donations, donations can be mailed to: Crime Stoppers of Grey Bruce Inc., P.O. Box 1119, Owen Sound ON  N4K 6K6 OR on-line HERE>
