Local schools in Saugeen Shores held their annual Terry Fox fundraising runs and activities, in support of Cancer research and treatment, on Thursday, September 21st following the main fundraiser held on Sunday, September 17th.
Each school chose its activities in support of the Terry Fox Foundation.
St. Joseph’s Catholic school students met in the gymnasium on September 21st, where they listened and watched a video of Terry Fox and the history behind his attempt to run cross Canada, prior to heading out on their own walk or run. With a goal of raising $1,500, the students exceeded expectations raising more than $1,800.

Following a run/walk around the school, Saugeen District Senior School (SDSS) also held a Terry Fox ‘sports day’ on September 21st, the first for the school.
In the morning, grades 7/8 held a BBQ and, then in the afternoon, the senior grades held various sports activities from basketball to volleyball and touch football to road hockey. Each student was asked to contribute $5 toward the fundraising in order to participate.
The ambitious goal was to raise $5,000 and, to date, the total has yet to be determined.
G.C. Huston Public School in Southampton, always recognized as a major player when it comes to FUNdraising, held two runs …the junior students around the playground/track and the senior students around Fairy Lake (adjacent to the school). No total as yet has been determined.
