Month of March is a busy time at Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre

When it comes to March, the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre is always a hive of activity.

March school break is always the family fun place to be for all ages and, this year, was no exception.

All entertainment events, where adults had as much fun as the kids in the Bruce Power theatre, were sold out.

On March 17th, the audience was enthralled to not only learn about the unique behaviours and habitats of the unique species of raptors that fly and hunt their prey, but were able to experience them up close when the Raptor Birds of Ontario came to the theatre in a live demonstration.

Then, on March 19th, it was the wildly zany Big Balloon Making Machine Show with Drew Ripley.  With unbounding energy, the Balloon Man created balloon creatures and illusions as children excitedly joined him on stage.

There is no doubt that, the high-energy, funny, playful, silly and super talented Ripley has the ability to delight everyone at any age … and he did.

While theatre performances were a big hit, so too, were the the live displays throughout the week. There were heritage spinners and weavers, wood turners, the lively Bevan’s General Store, Riding the Railways storytelling and, of course, the chance to climb aboard the HMS General Hunter war of 1812 replica ship.

Then, on March 20th, visitors learned about the Indigenous peoples as Saugeen First Nation Elder, Shirley John, held cultural demonstrations in the Anishnaabwe Endaat gallery where she shared seasonal stories and guided children in a winter-themed craft. In the lower cafe, Saugeen First Nation community member and Educator Natalka Pucan led storytelling.

Finally, it was time to wrap up March break 2026 as the ever-popular hilarious Steve Baker Magic Show that appeals to all ages returned to the Bruce Power theatre.

Weaving his magic, Baker not only held the audience’s attention but called many to the stage to take part in the illusion of magic.

Kids then learned how to perform simple magic tricks to amaze their friends and family at home.

One event ends and the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre gets ready for the next.

As Easter is quickly approaching, on March 28th, it’s an Easter preparation day as the popular Easter Egg hunt returns along with the Ukrainian Egg workshops for both youth and adults.
