The Kincardine Multicultural Celebration was founded in 2003 by Dr. Chandra Tripathi, with a vision of fostering respect and acceptance of all cultures. The first celebration was organized at Huron Heights Public school, Kincardine and attracted 200 attendees celebrating a variety of cultures.

As in the past, attendees had the opportunity to engage and learn from each other’s cultures by sampling ethnic delicacies and discovering new traditions. From Afghanistan to India, Thailand to Scotland, Germany to Syria or France to China, it was a chance to enjoy tastes of the world.

High school student Pankti Shah said “I have been attending the Multicultural Day Celebration since I was 5 years old. This annual event enables us to celebrate the different cultures embedded in our community and has personally had a great impact on me. I have learned to be proud of my unique background and heritage and feel more accepted in my school community. I am very grateful that Multicultural Day is celebrated even in a small town like Kincardine!”

“This event offers a unique opportunity and forum to dialogue and promote understanding within the community. It encourages everyone to remember the importance and benefit of inclusiveness and diversity in various cultures. These interactions strengthen the community and workplaces. They also foster a sense of belonging and inclusion,” said organizer and founder Dr. Chandra Tripathi.
