Natural gas will result in savings for business and residents says MPP

MPP Bruce-Grey Owen Sound, Bill Walker, is looking forward to the new natural gas expansion program.
“I am grateful for the trust that the Premier has put in me as the Associate Minister of Energy. This new post has been very exciting, especially the Natural Gas Expansion Support Program which is connecting more communities across Ontario to natural gas. This will result in significant savings for residents and businesses and sends a clear message that Ontario is open for business.”
Locally, communities in Arran-Elderslie, Southern Bruce, and Kincardine will benefit from Phase I of the program.
“I am looking forward to building on the success of the Natural Gas Expansion Support Program with the recently announced Phase II, and to continuing to take a measured and prudent approach to lowering energy costs for Ontarians,” adds Walker.
The Government intends for approximately $130 million to be made available to support new natural gas projects that can reasonably be expected to commence construction between 2021 and 2023.
Several projects are currently under construction but, in order to build on the progress to date, the Government intends to further increase access to natural gas by making additional new projects eligible for financial support. The Government intends to make use of the same mechanism articulated in the current Regulation; namely, the collection of $1 per month from existing natural gas customers .
