Port Elgin Fish Hatchery to celebrate 40th Anniversary

The Lake Huron Fishing Club (LHFC) is about to celebrate the Port Elgin Fish Hatchery’s 40th Anniversary with an Open House.

The Lake Huron Fishing Club is dedicated to ensuring future generations will have quality fishing opportunities. It operates two fish hatcheries – Port Elgin and Kincardine, hosts the Classic Chantry Salmon Derby, initiates and supervises school hatchery projects, partners with Bruce Power to financially support several conservation projects, provides stream enhancements and environmental improvements, and assists government agencies on assessments.

The Open House celebration is being held on March 9th, the beginning of the March school break, at the Hatchery (the town pond) in Port Elgin and is a chance for the entire family to see first-hand the thousands of salmon and trout being raised by the volunteers of the Hatchery and LHFC.

Everyone is invited to drop by for a free hamburger/hot dog and drink from 10AM to 2PM, and to learn more about the conservation work that the Lake Huron Fishing Club to uphold the fishery stocks in Lake Huron.

The work of the LHFC relies on thousands of volunteer hours to operate the Kincardine Hatchery, the Port Elgin Hatchery, the School Hatchery Program, and the Chinook Salmon Derby. For more information, visit:  https://www.facebook.com/groups/2921053651465449/
