PROBUS roster of interesting speakers continues

Saugeen Shores Men’s Probus club continues to have a roster of speakers that inform and entertain with their knowledge in their fields of expertise.

When it comes to automotive, July’s speaker, The Car Lady, (a.k.a. Christine Mitchell) knows what she is talking about when it comes to vehicles.  A trained technician (mechanic), she has grown up with what is under the hood and explains the workings in an understandable and hilarious at times way.

“The car business is my life,” said Mitchell. “I am proud of the knowledge I can share with a bit of humour. I like to call my style of teaching infotainment!” And info-entertainment it was as she had Probus members laughing out loud at her explanations and antics.

At the conclusion of her talk, Mitchell answered many questions about vehicles, from makes and models to gas versus electric, types of tires and how to do simple checks on your vehicle.

August Speaker on Tuesday, August 5th, is Angela Yenssen, a former long-term care and social worker who returned to school to become a lawyer.

Today, her “passion and focus through much of my working life has been supporting older adults. My legal work is currently focused on elder law.”

Currently working in a community legal clinic position, it allows her to pursue interests in social justice, social support, community development, and public legal education.

On Tuesday, Yenssen will be talking about an important subject that is, or should be, of interest to everyone … Power of Attorney (POA).  In Ontario, it is considered essential for planning in the event of incapacity and ensuring that final wishes are carried out.

It is a legal document that gives someone else the authority to manage your financial and/or personal affairs, including health-care decisions.

  Something to become informed about.

The PROBUS club meets on the first Tuesday of each month at the Port Elgin Legion upstairs at 9:30 a.m.
