The 25-year-long tradition continued, as the the August long weekend began, with the long-awaited LOBSTER FEST at Southampton Foodland.
The event continues to grow and is a highlight for both year-round residents and visitors. In 2019, 550 lobsters were on the menu and, this year, 800 lobsters were flown in fresh from Nova Scotia, all pre-ordered.
While some were simply picked up, the majority were cooked on-site. From single orders to one for 21 lobsters, Matt Burrows oversaw the cooking while customers sat and enjoyed the music of Al Crawford, another long-standing tradition.
This year, Libby the Lobster paid a visit and avoided the pot.
The popular event has spread in reputation and Tawnya Tersigni of the Markdale Foodland said that her store will be planning a Lobster Fest for next year. “This was a great experience and a chance to see how smoothly Matt runs the whole operation.”
