It’s time to Light the Way for the 10th anniversary of the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation Radiothon fundraising campaign.
When the Light the Way campaign began in 1999, it raised $26,000 in support of the local
hospital. Since then, the campaign has raised over $3.2 million to date for equipment needs that keep health care close to home.
Because the provincial government does not provide funding for equipment and in order to keep up with the increasing demand on hospital and regional health system equipment replacements, enhanced services and facility updates, it means that the current need of some $3 million a year now falls to fundraising.
Although some systems are not visible and are ‘behind the scenes’, they are vital when it comes to the impact on patients and patient care.
One of the most important FUNdraisers is the annual Radiothon hosted by 97.9the Bruce radio station in Port Elgin and that will be celebrating its 10th anniversary.

This year’s Light the Way Radiothon will be happening this Thursday, December 11th from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at 97.9the Bruce in Port Elgin, with a fundraising goal of $200,000. Whether a resident or visitor, those who rely on the local hospital are invited to donate to Light the Way Holiday Campaign Radiothong — tune into 97.9the Bruce and make a call (519-832-GIVE) or drop by the radio station on Goderich Street on December 11th and join in the FUNdraising.
In addition to the Radiothon, the Hospital Foundation in 2026 will again feature the largest FUNdraiser, the Lake Huron Gran Fondo, a weekend fundraiser that brings in 1,000 cyclists from across Ontario and beyond. The annual Cruisers Cruise Night throughout the summer has also become a major fundraising event dedicated to the local hospital.

Also, stay tuned for the upcoming new fundraising endeavour in 2026, — the Saugeen Shores Home & Cottage Show.
