“As one of the fasting growing municipalities in Ontario, we are continuing to strengthen and expand our infrastructure in order to accommodate that growth,” said Cheryl Grace, Southampton Ward Councillor, “of course, as a Municipality, we cannot do that alone. That is why these discussions are so important in bringing our provincial and federal government counterparts to the table to ensure we meet the needs of our residents.”

The following topics were discussed with the Province:

  • Facilitating the growth of primary health care services by supporting the funding of a Family Health Team.
  • Recognizing the significant impact the Aquatic and Wellness Centre will have on tourism and recreational activities for the region to assist in the funding of the facility’s construction.
  • Providing reliable high-speed internet access to our residents by deploying fiber optics throughout the boundary area of the municipality.
  • Assisting the remediation of Pioneer Cemetery due to the effects of erosion on burial plots.

The following topics were discussed with the Government of Canada:

  • Meeting the growing housing needs of our community through the Housing Accelerator Fund as it supports the Town’ proposed Community Planning Permit System housing initiative.
  • Providing financial support in the construction of our Aquatic and Wellness Centre through the upcoming Green and Inclusive Community Buildings (GICB) Fund application round.
