Southampton Arts Centre has introduced a colourful new logo, to convey a strong sense of local beauty and the energy of art.
“Southampton is both a regional arts hub and a tourism destination famous for its beaches
and sunsets,” said Fred Kuntz, Chair of the Board of Directors. “We’re unveiling a fresh new
look that aims to excite these feelings of local pride and artistic expression.”
The organization has seven decades of history in Southampton, founded in 1957 as an art
school on Albert Street, then adding a gallery in 1999 in the former Town Hall on High Street to promote the work of local artists. The first Board included three members of the Group of Seven: A.Y. Jackson, Arthur Lismer and Lawren Harris.
The new logo was designed by Crissy McConnachie, formerly of Southampton. Her initial
draft emerged as a favourite from more than a dozen submitted by local artists, with a final
review and selection by the Board of Directors.
Next steps include replacing signage on the former Town Hall building, which houses the
Southampton Art Gallery.
Meanwhile, registrations are underway for the new season of classes at the
Southampton Art School, including children’s classes. Parents of students,
and adults interested in learning new art skills themselves, can also sign up online at
