When severe rainfall from the remnants of Hurricane Beryl threatened the Coastal Conservation Youth Corps’ activities, Southampton Rotary stepped up to provide a safe home, by offering Rotary Hall at 39 Grey St. free of charge, ensuring the Corps could continue their studies without interruption.
The Youth Corps were on a planned week of outdoor activities along the town’s shoreline. The program, offered by Lake Huron Coastal Centre, allows youngsters aged 13 to 18 to learn about diverse ecosystems and dynamics while actively working to conserve and restore these special places. Participants gain hands-on experience with dune restoration, invasive species removal, shoreline surveys, plant identification, beach clean-ups, and much more.
Kerry Kennedy, Program Organizer, stated, “We’re grateful for the rapid response from Southampton Rotary, which enabled us to continue our vital educational activities despite the challenging weather conditions.”
