Stunt driving on the Bruce Peninsula continues

Stunt driving seems not to be decreasing any time soon on the Bruce Peninsula as warm summer days bring many visitors to the area.

On the heels of July 15th charges against six motorists, between July 24th and July 26th, another 11 motorists were charged with stunt driving – 50km/h or more over the posted speed limit, contrary to section 172(1) Highway Traffic Act (HTA).

Driving speeds ranged from 130 km/hr to 145 km/hr in an 80 km/hr zone and of the 11 motorists charged, all were from without the area from Toronto to Brampton and Peterborough to Quebec.

Then only days ago, on Monday July 27th, an additional five (5) motorists were charged with stunt driving.

09:45 a.m. – Highway 6, north of Wiarton – 27 year old from Scarborough – over 130 kilometres per hour (km/h) in the posted 80 km/h speed limit.

2:27 p.m. – Highway 6, near Limberlost Road, – 21 year old from Toronto – over 150 km/h in the posted 80 km/h speed limit. This driver was also charged with careless driving and Class G1 licence holder – unaccompanied by qualified driver, both Highway Traffic Act offences.

11:07 a.m. – Highway 6, near Hellyer Road, – 32 year old from Etobicoke – over 140 km/h in the posted 80 km/h speed limit.

1:12 p.m. – Highway 6, near Little Pike Bay Road, – 24 year old from Hamilton – over 130 km/h in the posted 80 km/h speed limit.

2:25 p.m. – Highway 6, near Lawrence Road, – 20 year old from Oshawa – over 130 km/h in the posted 80 km/h speed limit.

All drivers were issued provincial summons to attend court, a 7 day drivers licence suspension and their vehicles were towed and impounded for 7 days.
