The Garden Tour returns to raise funds for Hospice care

Once in awhile you come across a small oasis where the sound of traffic disappears and only the sound of birds and the whirring of insects can be heard.

‘Wit’s End’ in Southampton is one of those quiet spots and is one of the gardens to be featured on this year’s Garden Tour in Saugeen Shores.

Before even entering the secluded garden, Blue Dune grass and Russian sage line the sidewalk on either side, brushing against your legs as you walk by.  The scent of the sage wafts in the air while fish appear to swim through the Dune grass.

In just 10 short years, owner Pamela Katch has created a mystical garden filled with pollinating plants for butterflies and birds.  A newly created pond lies beneath the umbrella-like Sumac where a small platform welcomes birds who want to cool in the summer heat.  An iron lobster, created by the owner’s artistic son-in-law Seth, appears to sit patiently watching over the waterfall.

In the shade of the Sumac tree, brilliantly glowing orange poppies wave in the breeze along with nearby lush ferns.

A potting shed is every gardener’s wish and this one features a sitting area complete with a a chandelier, while nearby is a comfortable patio for lounging.

Throughout the garden are signs of the owner’s passion for her garden and plants … a giant Norfolk pine, Lavender surrounding a birdbath, a quiet pond tucked in a corner with a frog spitting water, a variety of ferns, sun-loving and shade-loving plants … it’s a garden reflecting the owner’s love of nature.

‘Wit’s End’ at 75 Grosvenor Street N. Southampton is a natural-style garden on this year’s 2025 Garden Tour and part of the fundraiser for Huron Shores Hospice on July 12th hosted by the Southport Horticultural Society.
