Appreciation to local historian for sharing his passion for those who served

To the Editor:
I had the good fortune to meet Mr. Bill Streeter from Southampton on a flight to Halifax this past summer.
We struck up a chat and he told me about his passion for local history and those that have served Canada.

As we chatted I told him of my planned trip to Sicily in September/October.  Mr. Streeter informed me of a Canadian War Memorial Cemetery in Agria, Sicily. My wife and I took a short detour while on our trip and visited the Agria War Cemetery.

It is a beautiful and fitting tribute to those who sacrificed all.  It is a very lasting and poignant memory amongst all the other beauty of Sicily. (photos att’d)
I want to thank Mr. Streeter for sharing this with us.

G. William Streeter NOTE:

The local man that is buried in the Agira Cemetery is Gordon Saunders.
His daughter Sheila saw her dad when she was five months old before he shipped out and never saw him again.
