The Bruce County Historical Society (BCHS) is pleased to announce that the 1967 to 2010 annual Year Books will now be available on-line. This important work was completed by the staff at the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre.
Each year, beginning in 1967, the Bruce County Historical Society has published a year book for its membership. Each yearbook contained a variety of historical stories about the people, places and events in Bruce County history. These fascinating stories of our past are now more available to people across the globe who are interested in Bruce County’s past.
Deb Sturdevant, Archivist at the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre, who worked with the BCHS on the project said, “The BCHS yearbook collection is one of the most frequently used references in the Archives & Research Room, with people discovering information on a wide range of topics! In the past few months, researchers have used these books to learn about bootlegging, the Corran Estate, rural schools, the salt industry, and more. The Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre is pleased to make this wealth of information about Bruce County more widely available and researchable on BCM&CC newspapers.brucemuseum.ca website.”
The Bruce County Historical Society President, Dorne Fitzimmons, added that, “The Society is pleased to offer public access to these yearbooks through our partnership with the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre. Our yearbooks have been published each year since 1967 and we are offering access up to 2010. As time goes on more years will be added. We will also be adding an index in the near future. We acknowledge our contributors to the yearbooks, over the decades, who have assisted us in accomplishing our goal of collecting, preserving and disseminating the history of our County.”
