Men’s Shed is part of a global movement among men where all participants are part of a grass-roots, bottom-up movement and where members decide what they wish to do.
The Bruce Men’s Shed is a friendly community-based group for all men on the Bruce Peninsula where they can gather to enjoy a cup of coffee, work on a project or hobby, utilize a life-time of acquired knowledge, skills and abilities or learn something new – a unique place to work on a project, hobby and build stuff.
It’s an opportunity for all men to socialize and build long-lasting friendships, self-confidence, self-worth and learn new skills, where respect is mandatory and no particular skills are required.
Last month, four members brought birdhouse kits to Golden Dawn Seniors’ home in Lion’s Head and helped a number of men residents hammer birdhouses together. Earlier in the year, using grant funding, approximately $500 was used to purchase cedar boards to cut and keep in kit form. Kids at the Pike Bay Canada Day event then assembled 27 of the kits with another seven by seniors.
Then, the group began building raised garden planter boxes for a fundraiser, ‘Let’s Get Growing’ with proceeds going to the Golden Dawn Senior Citizen home in Lion’s Head. Cedar material was donated from Wilson’s Home Hardware and Miller Lake Rona, including v-match cedar and pressure treated wood.

Every Monday morning, the group meets for coffee from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with a monthly meeting on the third Saturday morning of the month at the Canadian Legion Branch 202 on Hwy. 6 just north of Ferndale.
