With Canadian Children’s Book Week approaching, Bruce County Public Library (BCPL) is inviting the public to join them in celebrating Canadian talent with special author events taking place in April and May at various Branches.
Canadian Children’s Book Week (CCBW) occurring the week of April 21, is a national celebration of books and reading, bringing authors, illustrators, and storytellers to communities across Canada. What is a better way to recognize our incredible local authors then by showcasing them at our local Libraries?
Local authors will visit regularly scheduled Story Times, a popular drop-in program designed for preschool-aged children. Here is the schedule:
Dorothy Ladd, Wiarton Branch, Tuesday, April 29, 11am
Elizabeth Davaze, Kincardine Branch, Wednesday, April 30, 10:30am
Jenny Lee Learn, Sauble Beach, Friday, May 2, 11 am
Catherine Swartz, Port Elgin, Tuesday, May 13, 10:30am
Additionally, the Mildmay Branch will welcome Doug Archer to their After School Program for grades 1-6, on Tuesday, April 29, 3:30pm, kids will need to be registered online for this special program.
BCPL will also be hosting some special events for the adults, with Michelle Unsworth-Foote, author of How to Get Your Sh*t Together (so your loved ones don’t have to do it for you), visiting the Sauble Beach Branch, Wednesday, April 16, at 2pm, and then the Wiarton Branch, at 5pm. Refreshments will be provided at both events.
Bonnie Sitter, author of “Onion Skins and Peach Fuzz: Memories of Ontario Farmerettes”, will be presenting photos and information about her books and her upcoming film “We Lend a Hand”, at the Teeswater Town Hall, Wednesday, April 30 at 7pm. This event is in partnership with the Teeswater Agricultural Society, who will be providing refreshments, and the Municipality of South Bruce, who generously provided the Hall.
Books will be available for purchase (cash only).
Be sure to take advantage of BCPL’s new online events calendar and registration forms to secure your spot today! All events are free to attend.
