Earlier this week, November 5th, at the intersection of Devonshire Rd. and Goderich St. in Port Elgin, according to bystanders, a 22-wheeler transport truck failed to complete a turn on to Devonshire and, as a result destroyed the complete front of a vehicle at the lights.
Although not confirmed, a bystander said, “It was as though the driver of the truck didn’t even see the car.”
Fortunately, the driver of the car was not injured.
Several months ago, Rhul Amin, Town Manager of Engineering Services, recommended that the lane delineation at the intersection be reconsidered. He explained that the large delivery transport trucks for the new Basics food store, were finding it difficult to complete the turn due to space constraints.
It was recommended that the pavement painting of the lanes be changed to allow the trucks to make a wider turn at the intersection.
To date, the lane change has not been made but it has not yet been determined if this affected the collision.
