Local connection to Nobel Peace Prize winner

The Bruce-Grey Catholic School Board is very proud to announce that we have a local connection to a recent Nobel Peace Prize winner.

Papy Mukenge, Principal at École ImmaculĂ©e-Conception School Formosa, is the son-in-law of Dr. Denis Mukwege, a gynecologist treating victims of sexual violence in Congo, who won the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize last Friday.

Dr. Mukwege is head of the Panzi Hospital in the eastern city of Bukavu, a clinic that opened in 1999 and treats thousands of women each year who are victims of sexual violence.

The Norgewian Nobel Committee cited “The importance of Dr. Mukwege’s enduring, dedicated and selfless efforts in this field cannot be overstated. He has repeatedly condemned impunity for mass rape and criticized the Congolese government and other countries for not doing enough to stop the use of sexual violence against women as a strategy and weapon of war”.

Congratulations to Dr. Mukwege on this recognition, and thank you for all that you have done through your work.

“God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have
helped his people and continue to help them.” Hebrews 6:10
