Did you know that the Shriners Hospitals for Children provide pediatric care to thousands of children in Canada, US and Mexico every year, regardless of their ability to pay?

The Shriners are a philanthropic fraternity that believes in fun, fellowship and the Masonic principles of brotherly love, relief, and truth. Fundraising activities are dedicated in support of the Children’s Hospitals in Canada, the US and Mexico, providing pediatric care as well as supporting innovative research.

Kincardine resident and Bruce Shrine Club member Alex Rauket is about to embark on an eight-day 850-kilometre bike ride on June 28th, called Kilometres for Kids.

Rauket, a Shriner with the Bruce Shrine Club and amateur cyclist, will cycle from Port Elgin to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Montreal over the course of eight days.

All funds donated will go directly toward the work of the hospital with the costs of the ride being covered 100% separately by an anonymous donor.

Located in Montreal since 1925, Shriners Hospitals for Children — Canada is a bilingual, acute care center providing orthopaedic specialty care for complex or chronic disorders, such as osteogenesis imperfecta (brittle bone disease), severe spinal and limb anomalies, reconstructive surgery and rehabilitation. Children from across Canada, the U.S. and around the world have benefited from the Canada Shriners Hospital’s groundbreaking research and innovative treatments, both in Montreal and in their own communities.

Rauket has set a goal of $50,000 and has been impressed by the generosity before the fundraiser has even officially started.

“I was inspired to complete this fundraising effort to not only raise money for this great cause but also to raise awareness of the work that Shriners all over North America do every day. Shiners work hard but have a great time doing it! Not only that, with this endeavour, I hope to encourage younger men, like myself, to want to become Shriners themselves,” says Rauket

Everyone is invited to join the Bruce Shrine Club and the Rotary Club of Southampton for a pancake breakfast on June 25th at the Masonic Hall in Port Elgin (Hwy. 21 across from Independent Grocer).

Details about Rauket’s fundraiser and the opportunity to donate are available at www.bruceshrineclub.ca.
