In celebration of Ramadan, Muslim women in the area organized a vendors’ market fundraiser and to wish visitors Ramadan kareem or “generous Ramadan” to visitors.

The market held on Saturday, March 23rd, featured several vendors who filled the social hall at Faith Lutheran Church on Ivings Drive in Port Elgin.
From handcrafted jewellery to homemade soaps, clothing to home baking, there was something for every taste at the market and children were kept busy with face-painting and colouring while parents shopped.
Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar and changes every year in accordance with the moon. In 2024, Ramadan began on the evening of Sunday, March 10th and will end on Tuesday, April 9th.
Fasting during Ramadan takes place daily from dawn to sunset and is a sign of loyalty to the Islamic faith and, during fasting, Muslims must abstain from eating and drinking, not even water. It is a reminder to remain patient, to learn self-discipline and to build an understanding of those who are suffering around the world.
