Obituary: Robert (Bob) Clifford Hastings – July 17, 2024

Robert Clifford ‘Bob’ Hastings, passed away peacefully at Southbridge Care Home, Owen Sound, on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at the age of 89, after a long struggle with dementia. Beloved husband to Bonnie Gaye Hastings (neé Palmer). Loving father to Sheri Lynn and her husband Steve and to Carla Michelle. Proud grandfather to Taylor Robert and Chloe Grace. Survived by his sister, Betty Churchill, brother, John and wife Sandra Brown, sister, Bonnie Westover and husband Verne, sister-in-law, Helene Hastings and many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his parents, Clifford Wellington “Cy” & Isabel (neé Davidson), brothers Gord and Jim, and his wife Myrtle. Bob was a born teacher, life-long learner and creative innovator. As an award-winning wood turner, Bob’s work was showcased throughout Ontario; he was a passionate promoter and judge for the Durham Show.

His many years of volunteer service with the CMHA, Grey Bruce branch, earned him a 10 year Volunteer Service award from the Premier of Ontario and the Joan Jones Outstanding Contribution to Community Mental Health Award.

A Memorial Service to Celebrate the life of Bob Hastings will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 – 2 PM at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Southampton. Interment of ashes Southampton Cemetery. If desired, memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Society of Grey Bruce or to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church.
