Pigs of Hope fundraise for Wheels of Hope

To the Editor:

Pigs of Hope is a fundraising campaign that raises funds to support the Canadian Cancer Society’s ‘Wheels of Hope’ transportation program.

The ‘Wheels of Hope’ enables volunteer drivers to take clients to cancer-related appointments.  The Wheels of Hope Transportation Service exists to relieve a person’s  worry about how they will make it to their appointments.  One in five cancer patients express difficulty in getting to treatment.

Once cancer patients are registered for the Wheels of Hope program, they are matched with drivers through a dispatch system and drivers are able to take clients based on their availability, whether to an appointment or for treatment.

During the Pigs of Hope campaign, we try to get as many pigs ‘adopted’ as possible and filled with donations,” says Delgado. “Each piggy (bank) comes with adoption papers, and the adoptive parent can name and dress the piglet as creatively as they like!”

The campaign is currently looking for one or two volunteers in the Kincardine and Saugeen Shores area to help lead the campaign and help adopt out 10 piggy coin boxes. The campaign runs from November 12th to December 31st.
