On Monday (Dec.7), SNC Lavalin generously donated $5,000 toward the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation’s (SMHF) annual Light the Way campaign. Light the Way (LTW) is the Foundation’s biggest annual fundraiser and the year-end funds are needed this year more than ever.
The focus of the Light the Way (LTW) campaign this year is the need for a new x-ray machine at the hospital in Saugeen Shores. The current machine is 15 years old, is at the end of its life and in need of replacement. Unfortunately, no government funding is provided for hospital equipment and the cost to replace the existing machine with up-to-date and faster digital equipment is $510,000. The new machine will also have a portable component which can be moved to the Emergency Dept. or in-patient unit when a patient is unable to move due to crisis or mobility issues.
“The community support each year during our Light the Way campaign is always so amazing to see,” said Board Chair Mary Jo Arnett. “SNC Lavalin have been great supporters over the last few years and we are tremendously grateful for their continuing community partnership with the Foundation, especially after a challenging year like this one has been.”
Light the Way continues until December 31st with a highlight of the campaign being the annual LTW Radiothon on 98 the Beach which is happening this Thursday, December 10th from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Last year’s radiothon raised an incredible $90,000 in just over 12 hours.
With COVID-19, the radiothon will be somewhat different this year. Those who want to donate at the radio station will be able to ‘sign the window’ and be eligible for prizes. The Foundation encourages everyone who values having healthcare close to home in the community to call in, share their stories about the care they have received at our local hospital, donate and challenge other friends, family, businesses to join them.
