Southampton High Street Phase One revitalization wins award

It was an exciting day on High Street in Southampton on Saturday, May 16th (2026) as the BIA and dignitaries cut the ribbon to officially recognize the improvements and revitalization made to the community’s main street.

“There is no doubt that there is a positive energy in downtown Southampton,” said Saugeen Shores Mayor Luke Charbonneau. “The upgrades and improvements have made a definite difference to the landscape of what is one of the most beautiful streets found anywhere.”

Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson was on hand to present a certificate to the BIA in recognition of its recent Award of Merit received from the Ontario Business Improvement  Area Association (OBIAA).

“As the member of Provincial Parliament for Huron-Bruce, I am proud to congratulate you on receiving the Award in the Streetscaping & Public Realm Improvements category for Phase One of the High Street Revitalization project,” said MPP Thompson. “This recognition is well-deserved and speaks to your (BIA) leadership, your support for local businesses and your commitment in creating a strong and welcoming main street.”

There was an air of energy along the street as businesses threw open their doors, visitors enjoyed the sound of live music and a bouncy castle at the Town Hall kept youngsters busy.

Phase Two of the revitalization project, already underway, will see a beautification of the area surrounding the Southampton Cenotaph that is expected to be completed by the end of June.
