“Saugeen Shores is continually looking to provide equal access to its amenities and facilities for residents and visitors, regardless of age or ability,” said Mayor Charbonneau. “These floating wheelchairs, alongside our mobility mats, help ensure that everyone has the chance to enjoy our beautiful Lake Huron waters.”

Daily loans of the WaterWheels floating wheelchair will be available this year from July 5 to Labour Day. There are two booking periods available per day, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Individuals can book the wheelchair for two consecutive periods when available.

Accessible beach mats (Mobi-Mat) are also available at each location to assist with mobility to the water.

This project fulfills a Division Highlight for Community Services’ Parks and Facilities Division, as outlined in the 2024 Business Plan approved by Council.
