Chantry Island Cham-bettes support newly branded WYCC

In February, the Cham-bettes welcomed Bronwen Helmka, Leadership Support, of the newly branded Women and Youth Crisis Centre (WYCC) Grey Bruce to speak about the crisis regarding youth and young women trafficking in our region.  Her talk was eye-opening and impactful.
The Cham-bettes were unanimously in favour of supporting the WYCC 2026 campaign with a $1,000 donation.

The Women’s Centre Grey Bruce recently announced its official rebrand as Women & Youth Crisis Centre (WYCC) Grey Bruce, a name that more clearly reflects the scope of services it provides and the people it supports across Grey and Bruce Counties. The organization is also launching a new Community Engagement Centre, strengthening its ability to prevent violence, build awareness, and connect with the community.

The new name recognizes the full range of crisis‑based supports delivered by the organization, including a Violence Against Women Emergency Shelter, Second Stage Transitional Housing, Studio Blue Youth Services for at‑risk and trafficked youth, outreach counselling, and prevention, education, and community awareness initiatives.

Heather Sheldrick

“With the launch of Studio Blue Youth Services, we formally expanded our services to include youth experiencing exploitation and trafficking,” said Heather Sheldrick, Executive Director. “This name change reflects that evolution and ensures our organization’s identity aligns with the full scope of supports we now provide.”

Stacey Barry

“This change brings clarity to the work we have long been doing,” said Stacey Barry, Head of Corporate & Community Partnerships. “It helps women, youth, partners, donors, and the broader community understand that we support both women and youth experiencing gender-based violence.”

The newly launched Community Engagement Centre provides dedicated space to support outreach counselling, volunteer coordination and training, prevention and awareness education, community and partner engagement, and fundraising and donor relations. The Centre is designed to deepen community connections and support the long‑term sustainability of critical services.

The name transition will be phased in over the coming months across signage, materials, and communications. During this time, both names may be used together to ensure clarity.
