As we begin the final month of what has been an extremely challenging year for Canadians and people around the world, Bruce Power is calling on residents of communities throughout Bruce, Grey and Huron counties to do their part to make things better for others.
By buying local this holiday season, you’ll support local small business owners, while helping keep jobs in our communities. A strong commitment to shopping local could also put small businesses in a position to hire a university, college or high school student during the holiday break.
Grey*Bruce*Huron Strong, the app and website created earlier this year through collaboration with Bruce Power, NPX Innovation and the Nuclear Innovation Institute, continues to be a resource for connecting and keeping people close in the three counties.
“Although there’s a light at the end of the tunnel in the fight against COVID-19, we need to continue being incredibly diligent in looking after each other,” said John Peevers, Bruce Power’s Director of Community, Media Relations and Economic Development. “That involves listening to our public-health officials and taking the necessary measures to stay safe and healthy, while helping local businesses by shopping at their stores, and dining and ordering takeout at restaurants and other eating establishments.
“In normal times, our small businesses support so many causes and organizations in our communities, as they’ve done in recent months with the All in Ontario Challenge auction that’s available on Grey*Bruce*Huron Strong. They’re relying on us more than ever right now to return the favour.”
Grey*Bruce*Huron Strong, which is accessible by downloading the GBHStrong app or at www.gbhstrong.com, is a destination to receive the latest COVID-19 information, provides resources for people and businesses in need, and a way for citizens to help others, and also gives ideas on things to do when you’re at home.
Bruce Power’s Be a Light: Beating COVID-19 Together campaign will provide $1 million to work with public health, county and municipal governments, chambers of commerce, hospitals, local MPs and MPPs, and community organizations to redouble efforts to battle the pandemic. This will be achieved through support for public health communications, additional community protections, supporting buying local, mental and physical initiatives, and lending a helping hand by working with school breakfast programs, long-term care facilities, and community organizations.
