Horns were honking throughout Owen Sound when the Grey Bruce Labour Council organized a ‘drive by’ show of appreciation for first responders on April 28th.
Approximately 30 vehicles gathered at the local ‘Y’ and then the cavalcade wound its way through the streets of Owen Sound past the Owen Sound Fire Hall, United Way, Hospital and various other facilities, all the while honking horns to demonstrate appreciation.
The ‘drive by’ also coincided with the April 28th Day of Mourning held annually by the Labour movement. Traditionally, on April 28th, the Canadian flag has flown at half-mast on Parliament Hill and on all federal government buildings. Employers and workers have observed Day of Mourning in a variety of ways over the years with some lighting candles, laying wreaths, wearing commemorative pins, ribbons or black armbands and pausing for a moment of silence at 11:00 a.m.
