On Sunday, September 5th (2022), the Labour Day weekend fireworks returned to Port Elgin (Saugeen Shores). The long-standing tradition marks the end of summer for many cottagers and, this year, it was a return to the tradition following two years of shutdown due to COVID.
This year’s event however, was another historic first as two Rotary Clubs joined together to bring the 2022 fireworks evening back to the community.
The Rotary Club of Saugeen Shores hosted a BBQ from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. to kick off the evening while the Port Elgin Rotary Club organized the fireworks extravaganza. Together, the two clubs brought the first return to the community of the in-person long-standing tradition.

It was evident by the hundreds of people who lined the harbour and beach, while others parked along the Lake Shore road, that visitors and residents were all in anticipation to once again watch the end-of-summer fireworks over Lake Huron, and they were not disappointed.
The oohs and aahs, especially by children, showed how excited they were.
