The Beachin U11 PWSA Saugeen Shores Sting travelled to Stratford on September 3rd to play the Provincial Grand Championships gold medal game versus the Waterloo Ghosts.
The game started with a bang when Elliana Cameron mowed through the line up with three strikeouts in the first inning.
The Sting then took to the bats with hits from Janey Harris, Elliana Cameron and Brooke Lamont giving the Sting a 3-0 lead after one.
Waterloo put pressure on the Sting in the 2nd putting four runs on the board with Peyton Myatt coming in and closing the door with a big strike out to get out of the inning.
Myatt continued to throw strikes in the top of the third striking out one and inducing two ground balls to get through the third inning, leading to a shift in momentum when the Sting bats came alive. Olivia Clark started off the rally with a beautiful bunt single, followed by a double by Harris and Lamont and a single by Lane Topham to give the Sting an 8-4 lead going into the fourth.
Marissa Barfoot came in and pitched the 4th and 5th innings striking out four batters while allowing 3 runs taking the score to 8-7 after the top of the 4th.
The 4th inning saw the most dramatic play of the game after Barfoot singled and got to third base with two outs, when Olivia Clark laid down a suicide squeeze bunt that allowed Barfoot to score to make it 9-7 after the fourth.
Top of six saw Barfoot strike out the first batter leading to Myatt to come in and striking out the last two to take a 9-7 lead into the bottom of sixth.
Looking for insurance runs going into the last inning, Myatt stepped up to the plate hitting a solo home run to give the Sting a 10-7 lead. After Avery Sachs got on base for the third time in the game, Isla Beith laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to move Sachs into scoring position on third who then scored thanks to an RBI sacrifice hit by Barfoot giving the Sting an 11-7 lead going into the final inning of play.
The 7th inning saw Waterloo press the Sting with bases loaded, but they quickly closed the door with a ground ball out and two strikeouts by Myatt to finish the game with an 11-8 win becoming the 2022 PWSA U11B Grand Champions.
The PWSA Grands Game MVP was awarded to Peyton Myatt.
