On October 24th, the choral group of women, Makin’ Waves, celebrated its 25th anniversary with a fundraising concert at Faith Lutheran Church in Port Elgin, in appreciation for the facility where they hold their practices.

This is a group that simply loves to sing and perform in what is known as A cappella style singing, or singing without instrumental accompaniment, which later became known as ‘barbershop singing’, featuring beautifully blended vocal harmonies.
For 25 years, the group of dedicated women, under the direction of founder and conductor, Pat Bowers, has been performing a wide variety of music from the Beatles to musical theatre and folksongs, in the exquisite blend of voices in ‘barbershop style’ singing.
Practices have been held once a week with the group performing at Roy Thompson Hall in Toronto and various local venues, including fashion shows, weddings, care centres and retirement homes.
Although members have come and gone throughout the years from throughout Bruce County, including Saugeen Shores, Kincardine, Inverhuron and beyond, three original members remain while several others have marked five, 10 and 15 years.

Faith Lutheran Church pastor, Dar Rath, welcomed the group saying that “…it’s incredible that they sing all these songs without any physical music sheets in hand. Aren’t they wonderful!”
