NII releases Annual Report: All of us, innovation

As the Nuclear Innovation Institute releases its 2024 Annual Report, the organization reflects on the power of collaboration, creativity and shared purpose, continuing to redefine what it means to drive progress in the nuclear sector and beyond.

Titled All of us, innovators, the Annual Report is a look at the organization’s work over the past year, centred on the core belief that innovation doesn’t solely mean inventing the latest widget or technology—it’s a mindset that permeates every aspect of NII’s work.

aid NII Board Chair James Scongack, COO and Executive Vice-President at Bruce Power: “At the heart of our work is the understanding that the challenges we face—whether addressing climate change, ensuring energy security, expanding the medical isotope ecosystem, or creating equitable opportunities for growth—require bold action and fresh thinking.”

NII’s vision of a Canadian landscape that celebrates an innovative nuclear industry as an integral part of the clean energy future guided 2024’s work under three pillars:

  • Industry voice: Exploring critical energy topics through events such as the 2024 Clean Energy Frontier Conference, the launch of the Bruce Power Nexus Research Centre, and dynamic, unique communications that promote understanding and connection between the nuclear industry and its audiences.
  • Skill development: Anchored by the flexible, innovation-driven NII Advance Technology Campus, available to rent for educational programming, big and small events and dedicated workspaces, key skill development initiatives in 2024 included collaborative welding training programs, the unique NII Energy Co-op, and STEM events for students around the region.
  • Industry advancement: Securing tomorrow through process improvement, 2024 saw the launch of Kaizen for Nuclear, a program in partnership with Bruce Power, NII’s Founding Members, and partner vendors from the nuclear supply chain that reimagines processes, boosts efficiency and empowers workers on every level.

“The successes in this Annual Report are the result of the incredible dedication of our team, the support of our Founding Members and the collaborative spirit of our partners and communities,” said Jessica Linthorne, NII President and CEO. “Together, we are proving that innovation is not the domain of a few—it is the work of all of us.”

NII is grateful for the support of its Founding Members: engaged, forward-looking organizations working towards a clean energy future while also creating lasting local impact in the communities of Bruce, Grey and Huron counties. Thank you to AtkinsRéalis, Bruce Power, BWXT, Cameco, E.S. Fox, Kinectrics, Power Workers’ Union, and the Town of Saugeen Shores.
