Town salutes Champions in two different sports

Saugeen Shores Council Chambers on Monday (Sept. 9) was filled with young winning athletes who continue to bring accolades home.

Mayor and Council have initiated recognition for youth and others who bring recognition to their community through dedication and hard work.

First up was the Saugeen Shores Mosquito Sting OBA U11 Ontario minor baseball team ‘D’ division. The team of 10 and 11 year-olds won the overall championship when Saugeen shores hosted the 12-team tournament in Port Elgin over the Labour Day weekend, August 30th to September 1st.

Next up for recognition was the Saugeen Shores Lifesaving Club (SSLC) for their stellar performance at the Nationals in Nova Scotia.  The team brought home several medals and some athletes were chosen for the Canadian team that will go to the world’s in Italy in 2020.

The Club also won the the 2019 Ontario Championships that were held in Port Elgin and Southampton (Saugeen Shores) on Lake Huron in August, competing against several larger urban clubs.

Mayor Luke Charbonneau presented the team and Club members with individual certificates of recognition and town pins.
