Port Elgin Library set to celebrate 110 years

The Friends of the Port Elgin Branch Library are looking for old photos of the neighborhood around the library.  They are holding a scanning session.  I have copied a  media release below.

We would appreciate if you would print  this event in your newspaper.

Thanks

> Preparing to Celebrate 110 Years

The Friends of Port Elgin Branch Library are looking forward to marking 110 years since the classic Carnegie-funded Library opened.

What did the Goderich/Elgin Street area look in 1908?

In preparation for celebrations later this fall, the Friends are seeking photographs, documents, or other memorabilia of the library building, board members, or other buildings in its neighbourhood.

Who were the nearby business operators? Did any citizens leave diaries from that year? Who was born?  Whose wedding pictures depict a bridal couple from 1908?

The Friends will be at the Library on Wednesday, September 19 from 1 to 4 to scan photos or other items for use in displays.

Anyone who can offer such memorabilia is asked to contact the Friends before September 19th by e-mail at: portelginfriends@gmail.com or by phone at 519-..832-5837.

The Friends cannot accept any items at the Library prior to September 19th.
